Theories on Parallel Universes

Many recent studies have focused on “What is universe?” or “What are the universe’s boundaries?”, This is an important topic because universe is just not a science-fiction component. Universe’s meaning is space and everything exists in it, including the Earth and all the other planets in dictionary. Alchemists, chemists, mathematicians and physicists try to understand what is universe in many years and we still don’t have an exact answer. Earth which is humanity lives here for thousand years now was formed owing to “Big Bang”, according to scientists. Big Bang’s theorists think that universe was smaller than an atom before Big Bang, after explosion universe was getting bigger and this growing keeps going day by day, no one doesn’t know the growing when stops. When a person thinks all that things, he can’t believe that there are only us in this universe or there is only existed a universe.

The purpose of this paper is to expound theories on parallel universes. The remainder of this paper is divided into four sections. It begins by describing “What is the parallel universe?”. The second section of the paper briefly explains theories of parallel universes according to scientists and third section continues with theories of parallel universes according to science-fiction stuff. The last section, in the conclusion, it makes a suggestion for developing to theories on parallel universes.

Astronauts can go to space, but we know there is a limit which is they can travel. When we think that, Universe should be limited. According to Big Bang, there were lots of particles during the collision and Universe -which is we live in here- couldn’t be only survivor from that collision. This thought brings us to the idea of there’s just not a universe there are lots of universes just like ours and their numbers infinite (Raditya, 2018). For another perspective Howell (2018) explains parallel universe “ With An infinite number of cosmic patches, the particle arrangements within them must repeat –infinitely many times over. This means there are infinitely many “parallel universes”: cosmic patches exactly the same as ours (containing someone exactly like you).” (para. 10). Howell’s explanation shows us difference between multiple universes and parallel universes.

Scientific Theories of Parallel Universes

Everett’s Theory. Scientific theories start with Hugh Everett. He believes there are lots of universes and they connected to our universe before separation even our universe connected to another universe before our separation. Also, he thought maybe wars had been concluded in a different way and extinct animals -which don’t live in our world anymore- live in those universes. Those ideas weren’t nonsense; they were based on quantum mechanics. According to quantum mechanics, electrons can be located at the same orbit at multiple points simultaneously. Because of that electrons’ location can’t be known exactly. So, Everett’s idea was based on this scientific fact but he couldn’t prove his idea because no one believed him (Harris, 2018).

M-theory. Another theory is M-theory by Edward Witten. Actually, this theory explains the basic formations of the universe but it has not been formulated yet (“Introduction to M-theory.”, 2019). Stephen Hawking thought if M-theory can be formulated, we will reach “God’s Universe Formula”. According to M-theory, universe is covered by two-dimensional membranes. Those membranes never crash into each other in hyperspace. The universe which is observed by us is not alone in hyperspace and new universes and new membranes occur from our universe all the time. Besides, this situation likes to holograms for Hawking. Holograms are two dimensional but if you have a good perspective you can see three dimensional. According to holograms, Hawking’s idea is our world which is three dimensional was produced by multidimensional worlds and we’re coming from that theory, parallel universes’ reflections can be observed and we’re just a reflection (“Theory of parallel universes.”, 2019).

Science-Fiction Theories of Parallel Universes

Science-fiction movies and series even cartoons are about parallel universes, multiple verses, time travelling, life in space, planets which are people can live there except Earth; such as Inception, Interstellar, Stranger Things, Dark, Rick and Morty etc. They are very realistic and convincing at their main ideas. In movies, if you recoil in horror suddenly, it means you die in a parallel universe. They commonly use parallel universe at travelling scenes. There are a few gates which are opening to other parallel universes because of a space abnormally. Also, in movies you can travel between parallel universes by wormhole but in real life we can’t travel between them, even we can’t see white holes, scientists say wormholes don’t exist and we can’t prove to existing of parallel universes with concrete evidences (Mueller, 2016). Besides, movies approach the subject which is about parallel universes like identical twins. If you get shot from your stomach in this universe, your parallel universe twin feels an itch on his stomach in that universe. Because you live the same lives with him, but your actions’ consequences are different. Characters always travel with a strange machine or a person who can say Latin magical words fast and suddenly you are in a new universe, if you want to see yourself, it is going to be dangerous. You should always be careful and armed. Those things are just fiction and people act like they are not fiction (Bonderud, 2018).

To sum up, this paper has described parallel universes and theories about them in science and science-fiction versions. The most of people believe existing of parallel universes but their belief comes true science-fiction stuff. Their capacity is higher than fiction; they can understand fictional theories and some of them know they are not real but mostly believe them. This is not about low IQ level. The reason about believing fictional stuff is science can be confusing. In other words, scientific theories stand on quantum mechanics and this is very complex major. Consequently, scientific theories should be easier than before to understand, most of people’s support is not just for fiction anymore, they are going to support scientific theories and the world can be more open and supportive. Maybe we can look forward to a future which is humanity can contact with other parallel universes.
